Disabling AVI max on Windows XP? Can it be done?
Is there a way in XP to disable the max AVI size? This may be a dumb question...I am not too sure. Can someone maybe tell me, or possible link me to an older post on this?
thanks Jamie |
I can have AVI files up to the size of my hard drive on WinXP (and Win2K)
Question #1: What format is your hard drive? A drive formatted in FAT32 has a 4 Gig file size limit. This is a limit of the drive format and NOT the operating system. |
Hmm...ya. It's fat32.

Change it to NTFS and you will eliminate your file size limitation.

This won't mess up anything?
|
No, it will not cause problems (naturally it IS advised to back up first). In fact, XP includes a convert program just for this purpose. Definitely change it as some point even if you want to wait a little while.

NTFS will be fine. The only thing you need to worry about, is if you share that drive with other systems that might not understand NTFS. Even DOS doesn't so if you ever go to DOS for anything you might be in trouble. That said, there are read-only NTFS utilities and things.
Generally though, no it won't hurt and in fact will help. Aaron |
