Best way to have everything in B&W but the main subject
 

I have a clip of a skateboarder. I would like to have everything in b&w but the skateboarder himself doing his manoeuvers.

What are my options? Some sort of frame by frame coloring by hand? *if that is the only method, i dont mind, it'll take me forever but it's worth it hehe*

Without knowing what software you're planning on using, I'll offer some general--probably too-obvious--ideas...

If your shot is tripod mounted, you can likely separate out the background by keying the unchanging portions.

More likely your shot is handheld, and yes, you'll need to rotoscope the matte by hand. You'll probably want to give it a nice soft edge.

I know in after effects you can vector paint the area you want in color, matte that area then add the b&w layer underneat that layer.

I think that is much easier than rotoscoping? Is there a way to import an AFTER EFFECTS 5.5 project file INTO PREMIERE 6.5? (keeping quality at FULL) if so I think i'm set! hehe

I don't know about import an after effects project file into premiere, but i know you can import a premiere project file in after effects if that helps.

You can always just render the output of your After Effects comp and slap the clip back into Premiere. (I'm being obvious again!)
