Recapturing with pinnacle?

If I recapture an AVCHD video on a DVD that I previously burned, using Pinnacle 12, does Pinnacle rerender everything and reduce the quality of the video image? Does it do so whether I add transistions that weren't there before or not? Because this is what I want to do; add transitions and extra footage to an already existing DVD that I had burned previously with my AVCHD SR11.
If it does, is there anything I can do to improve the end product?

Thanks.
Mike

DVD can't contain AVCHD. It is illegal. Reediting DVD will lead to further quality loss. Your best approach is to not touch the DVD, but start afresh.

Your original footage may have been AVCHD, but when your project gets burned to a standard DVD for playing in a DVD player, in the USA it gets rendered down to 720x480 MPEG2, because in the USA that's what a standard DVD is.

I would hunt down where you are keeping your original footage+project and add your new source footage and project changes there. This is also why you don't delete original source footage and projects. In case you want to go back.

And yes, Pinnacle rerenders everything, degrading the quality of the image. Thus providing another reason to always keep your original source. To eliminate multi-generational loss.

Yes, I do back up everything. However, I discovered that I had somehow lost one shot; it was nowhere to be found and it was a critical shot. That is why I had gone back to a previous DVD that I had burned in order to find that shot. Even the most careful/best laid plans are sometimes imperfect.
