Best way to capture DV from camera?

I'm sure this question has been asked quite a few times, but I haven't been able to find it searching the forums.

I'm wondering what people think is the best way to capture footage from a miniDV camera using Premiere 6.5 or Vegas 3.0. I have both programs. I've done some captures and compression so far and I've had some interlace issues. I'd appreciate it if anyone could post the process and settings they use in premiere/vegas video when they capture.

Thanks in advance

You don't use ANY settings when you capture. In Vegas, just open the capture utility and start capturing. It will become an AVI file of the DV stream - an exact copy of what was on the tape.

So, I'm not sure exactly what your question is: If you are seeing interlaces issues, is it on the PC screen or when printing back and playing on a TV? If only on a PC, this is NORMAL and it should look fine when playing on a TV.

If you are rendering to view on the PC, in Vegas you can try turning on the "Reduce Interlace Flicker" switch on all clips that may need that setting.

So, what is your final output destination? How are you currently rendering? Capturing is surely not your problem.

No, I don't believe capturing is my problem. I phrased my question poorly.
My final output destination will be TV. I did view the footage on the TV via the camera, and of course, it looks fine. However, I would also like to make a copy to view on the PC. I've been getting some fairly good results by rendering with the mainconcept MPEG2 codec and making the field order progressive only.

I was wondering what other people used for rendering for Television and rendering for the PC. I'm sure the settings vary sometimes based on what you've recorded, but I'm just looking for general suggestions

thanks

To render for viewing on the computer (in Vegas), I use standard AVI files and choose a lower bit rate like 256k. The default settings should work fairly well but there are settings (such as the quality slider) that may need to be modified. You may also want to make sure you are using "reduce interlace flicker".

I typically only output to MiniDV (/VHS) or DVD so interlacing has not been a major issue for me. The only "non-tv" files I have created were designed to be small internet clips.
