pci sata card or ide to sata adaptor

I'm stuck with a P4 3Ghz that fits onto 478 mobo which has 2 sata ports for my hard drives. I want to stick with sata drives for the neat cabling basically but all that is left are ide ports and I want to add a couple more drives. Is there an advantage in going with a sata to ide adaptor so that I make use of existing ide ports vs going for a pci card that has mutiple sata ports? Would one be faster than another and would there be any hardware conflicts?

Ive got 3 of tehse little units and i know what ur going on about..
BUT...

i dont use them.. ive had nothgin but problems with the controllers, and when overheated, the adapters themselves can start to fail...

I now use these adapters for my second machine and they control the cdburner only... apart from that, i jumped and got myself a PCI IDE card (my old Abit Mobo had 4 IDE inputs... total of 8 drives with n built raid.. but that died during a mvoe, so the PCI card was the enxt best thing.....

On the other hand, in ur situation, id go for a PCI SATA card (as opposed to these adapters... if ur gonna jump to HD, a raid card would help, but its really not needed for SD... these Sata cards dont cost more then 80bux... prolly bout the price of 2 of these adapters ur looking at.. and theyre far more relaible... check out Umart.. theyre in arncliffe just on hume why near the speed camera bend near the bowling alley

cheers
Pete

oh by the way, i had a promise raid controller before i got this "el cheapo" Skymaster unit..The Promise literally nuked 2 drives on its way out.. windows (even with the right drivers etc etc) wouldnt recognise IDE1 on that card.. so for that, it was nothin but problems..

With this skymaster, i just uninstalled everything Promise Related, and installed the Skymaster ones, and i havent had a problem yet...
Im also running 7HDD on this machine.. 3 drives of which are removable rackmounts and m yet to have a problem with swapping these drives all set to vable select... knock on wood problems dont arise... lol ...
