Windows Media Player 10 can't display 16:9 footage properly

It can play the video file (XL2, 24pa, 16:9), but it seems like every other frame it squeezes it back to 4:3, so it is flickering like mad. Any ideas?

Still a puzzle to me. I posted this PPro 1.5 experiment about a year ago:

Haven't played with it in PPro2, and haven't heard any more on the issue since.

Thanks Pete, wow. I just upgraded to Ppro 2.0, but still using 1.5 for a project that I started last month. I will do a test and report back. Very strange indeed.

Prpro 2.0 DV AVI exports do not have the aspect ratio flicker in the aforementioned threads with PPro 1.5. All plays well in WMP.

I'm starting to see a pattern with Adobe Premiere -> Our upgrades will include fixes that are otherwise not available to previous versions (just upgraded due to the "Premiere Pro failed to return the video frame" error, and I tried every imagineable fix, even reinstall of XP with sp1a, not sp2).

You might try compression with the freeware Windows Media Encoder. It exposes many more encoding controls and flags.
