3D Title Creation

What would be a good software program to create your own 3d titles? I know lightwave is often used for this, but it really seems like overkill for something like this.

Try "Bluff Titler" at http://www.outerspace-software.com/blufftitler.html

It's what I used to create all teh 3D titles in my video podcast:

I'll second that - it's a neat piece of software...

My favorite is Xara 3D. You can do titles but if you can create a WMF or EMF metafile, it will make a 'character' out of it. I did an awesome 3D company logo for my former employer with it.

You'll need a vector-map drawing software that creates the metafiles to be able create your own characters or whatever.

Zaxwerks ProAnimator:
http://www.zaxwerks.com/

Most 3D apps (Maya, 3dMax, Cinema4D, XSI, etc.) are very capable of this sort of work, but they tend to have a steeper learning curve since they are designed to be highly flexible and able to meet many challenges.

"Focused" software like ProAnimator are great for titles, but not so good for general effects.

Another "focused" app is Ulead Cool3D: http://www.ulead.com/c3ds/runme.htm

Yes, Maya and lightwave have very steep learning curves, especially to someone who is relatively new to these apps. Are any of these freeware by chance? If not, no big deal.

Cool3D by Ulead is very very easy... limited but easy...
