hdv editing..help me move from sd-hdv

Hi there,
I currently edit my sd on a 3.2ghz p4 half a gig ram pc running ppro1.5 with a canopus realtime edit card.

I know i need better kit to edit hdv..im about to buy a jvc gy hd251.
this is stretching my budget(id rather get the main expense over).

so what would people recomend i spend about £1200 on to get the best "bang for my buck"?---pardon the expression.
many thanks

craig maret

Definately more RAM (like 2 GB) and preferably CoreDuo processor.

thanks ;-)

And sell your Canopus card. It is useless for HDV.

Jeff Chandler December 11th, 2006 11:41 PM

Depends on which Canopus card he has. If it's NX there's no better card for HDV.

steven you are correct it is 3 years old and rubbish!
this whole thing seems like a minefield..i bought a book called hdv filmmaking by Chad Fahs..seems a little out of date(cant find anything on cineform) but a good starter.

for someone who makes a living from sd video production going into hdv is scary(but well worth it), can anyone recomend a slightly newer read?
