Never got to understand even/odd thing

Hi. I know what it means, but I never found an answer to these questions:
I shoot on my Sony PD-150 PAL, edit in Avid Express.
When capturing...
4:2:0 or 4:1:1?
Even or odd field first?
When exporting an uncompressed Quicktime reference:
Even or odd field first?
When transcoding in Procoder to Vob files:
Even or odd field first file?

Are there no presets in Avid?

4:1:1 is the color subsampling ratio for NTSC DV while 4:2:0 is the color subsampling ratio for PAL DV - so you should use 4:2:0.

Both systems are lower (sometimes called even) field first.

When exporting to DVD, again it has to be lower (even) field first.

MAC people please chime in on the QT question.

P.S. I am surprised to read you use a PAL camcorder in California... unless you're just a tourist in the States.

Yes, I am visiting. I am from Argentina. Thanks for replying.
So when capturing PAL, 4:2:0 should be the setting?
Thanks!
