bitrates for cdrom

im putting video on cdrom, my first beta version i did i encoded (WMP7) at 2Mbps....runs fine on newer systems, but systems below 700 MHZ start having issues maintaining steady playback rate....any suggestions on how low i could go without suffering too much? its not fast action or anything, just a training type video. i realize that its not just the processor speed, bit bus speeds, cdrom speeds, etc...but i figure targeting 500 MHZ as the minimum be prob be acceptable...im going to try for 700Kbps

Any thoughts?

What resolution and frame rate did you use? Modern cdrom players
should be able to get you a 1.5 MB/s datarate easily.

Windows Media doesn't even seem to play fine from my harddisk
at even lower bitrates then yours. I stick to QuickTime/Mpeg.

unfortunately it has to be in WMP7 format...its for gov't use and they run W2K basically stock. i use WMP9 normally and dont have many issues with it. I ended up putting it on disc at 700 Mbps and it played fine on a 400 Mhz machine. if i had a choice i would have prob done this in QT or maybe even DIVX...
