If you're shooting with one of these it's usually someone other than the DPs wallet.

Brian, Bill I know I was just joking and dreaming of course. I saw a film about this camera and how it was used in making Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto" absolutely amazing.

It's not an impossible dream, just a matter of working towards it. They're beginning to be used on a wider range of productions, although they tend to ones that would be considering shooting 35mm.

Of course, there are also other high end digital cameras.

Alexander, not bad for a $40,000.00 camera complete. Oh well I'll stick with my FX7!

Professional cameras (Betacam SP or similar) can get you into some places that prosumer and consumer cameras can't. But on the other hand, when I got popped at the Indy 500 with my professional camera for not having the proper credential markings, they didn't say anything to the fans standing right behind me, that had high quality 3-chip prosumer cameras. Large professional camcorders can also get you some jobs that you can't get with anything else. Sometimes it's the sizzle not the substance that counts.

One other point. Since "Pro" cameras have virtually no automatic settings (except iris), if you don't know what you are doing, you can get some really terrible images.
