Can someone point me to a thread about the best tripod at a decent price point ($400-$600). I have a canon hv30 with a 35mm adapter and a rail system i think its over 10lbs total. I want the best value.

For that much money you'll have to have low expectations and wide focal lengths. I think the 503HDV and 3181 legs are the best deal. You need to evaluate spreaders, height ranges, leg locks, etc., of course.

For that money you can get a decent Bogen-Manfrotto with fluid head.
