Capturing from DVR to PC

Does anyone know a way to capture my DVR'd files from my Cable box? I can copy to another DVR that can burn a DVD. However, I want to be able to make my own edits.

I have a bunch of football games I want to put on DVD and can't get them off? any suggestions?

Hi Guy,

Are you wanting to add transitions, titles, and such ??

If so, you should be able to copy the files from the DVD's to your computer, and use a Video Editing Program to make the changes you want.

If not, or maybe just simple titles, I use 2 Panas and 3 Phillips DVR-HDD units that can do simple editing. ie - knocking out sections you don't want and/or rearranging the sequence of recorded materals.

The Phillips can also copy from non-comercial DVD's - to their HDD's - for such editing and DVD copy making.

I have connected my camera to my DVR with component cables (I have a component to mini plug adapter that fits my camera) and then captured to my computer via firewire. This has worked well for me, although it gives a couple of generations loss in the conversion from mpeg to AVI and then back to mpeg for the edited DVD.

I think some of the Tivo units can transfer to a usb hub, but I'm not sure. If yours can you might be able to transfer the original mpeg file and edit it without converting it.

Good luck.

I've taken the s-video and analog audio outputs from my PVR and captured them as DV using a Canopus ADVC110 converter box. Worked just fine, just a little time consuming since it captures in real time.
