Capture Sony's MICROMV MPEG-2 Digital Format?

I have a friend that asked me how he could capture footage shot on a Sony DCR-IP55 in MICROMV MPEG-2 Digital Format to a PC with Windows XP? Can anyone give any suggestions?

I'm a Mac user, and I've never used MicroMV...so I don't have a clue what to tell him.

I use Pinnacle Studio to capture from my Sony MicroMV to my pc.

Thanks, Tim. He doesn't have that program unfortunately. This is a one-shot deal. He'll only need to download from this particular camcorder once.

So, anyone know of a freebie capture program or some way to get the footage onto his computer without having to go out and buy a program.

I thought that sony bundled there own editing software with there MV range of cameras, due to incompatibility with certain software? - get them to check the box.

Cheers,

Ed

Wish it were that simple...of course, real life never is.

This camera was handed off to him by the head honcho with the instructions "Take this footage and put it on a DVD for me." The head honcho is now 7,000 miles away from home, so I doubt he brought the box with him. My friend, in the meantime, needs to deliver this footage.

So I'm trying to help him out...I know that if there's any place in the world where we can get info to help him deliver the DVD to this guy, it's here at DVi.

Realistically...no access to the original software, and this being a one-time capture and burn to DVD, there's no budget to buy software. PLUS, there's a time element. The clock is ticking. Taking those facts into consideration, anyone know how I can help him out?

ahhhhhh.......

If hes using Win XP I guess he could try windows movie maker? That might work.

The Sony software was called Movie Shaker, you might see if you can find a version of that to download other wise Pinnacle Studio is fairly cheap.

Try using another firewire equipped DV camera as a converter to convert the MPEG-2 stream to DV with the composite out on the the Sony.

Hope this helps.
