Usually air is not a good choice to dislodge sand etc. it just gets forced in deeper where you can't reach it. There are no user serviceable parts on a camera. Do not attempt to disassemble the lens or other components. You choices are to let the sand go see if it gets any worse or sending your camera to Canon for service. Living in Florida I try to be careful and avoid the sand, but getting sand on or in your camera is inevitable. I have a lens that is rough feeling from the sand and I'll probably send it in, in the next year or two for service.

Our meth lab techs recommend using baby wipes to clean the body and casing of the cameras with. Avoid getting it on the lens and LCD as it smears. Many brands already contain the alcohol and will work for a quick cleaning.

It figures that your drinking your head cleaner Rick! Where do you buy it from? We have a difficult time finding it up our way...much easier to make your own. ;)

Read after the BUT first...

Acetone removes Sharpe very well BUT it will discolor polystyrene and I think polycarbonate. It seems to work well on Polyethylene without discoloring. I have no idea what your housing is, but PS is not high impact, so it probably is not that.

Acetone can be found in some nail polish removers, but it is in such low amounts along with other junk, the you would not know.

But the safe bet is not to use Acetone, but it will work. It could remove a finish depending on what it is.

How topical again. A 2 year old found a Sharpe out our house. I checked the Sharpe page. They recommend Amodex Ink and Stain Remover. It should be in some arts supply stores. I ordered some online 2nd day delivery ;) Will let you know how well it works.

Don't Hate!

Hey Will,

I would have thought you Kansas S**T Kickers would have some mighty-fine shine recipes by now!!!

Maybe I'll bring a jug up to the LEVA conference in DC to liven up the joint! :O

Might be tough getting it on the plane, though.

Talk to you soon pal, RB.

The verdict on Amodex is Great! It will take another run to get it completely out of the carpet (light mushroom - red marker), but it is on the way. I have not worked too much on the couch yet, but I suspect a chance for some success.
