TRANSFERRING footage MAC to PC problem.

I've faced this problem multiple times and never really solved it.

I'm editing a hdv720p50 film on FCP and need to tranfer it to a friends system for grading. He uses a pc to do his work in after effects. Virtually every file type I put out is not recognised by his pc and teh avi files ive attempted have a great loss in quality.

How can output the film to be recognised by the pc without loss of quality. I dont have exact specs but he uses premiere so should have the codecs. All of our software is legitimate this is not a hooky software issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Got some video in ProRes 422 (1920x1080) - is there any software running on PC that can read and transcode this to anything editable on PC?

Apparently from our experiments, the new quicktime with prores recognition works from final cut to Vegas and Premiere Pro if the appropriate quicktime version --- or, if I recall correctly, a free Quicktime plugin --- are installed. Hope this helps.../ Battle Vaughan/miamiherald.com video team

Thanks for the lead. It would be great to put this problem to bed. Very much appreciated.

Yes, that is the best way, as Prores is visually lossless.

For a long time Apple kept Prores to the Mac people, but last fall they gave in and made a plugin available for the PC version of the free QT player. Once installed, any PC will be able to read and process QT Prores files (can't encode to Prores though).

The latest free QT player already has the upgrade, so you don't need the plugin.
