Getting stills (jpegs from video)
 

Hi. Someone wants to know hoe to get a still from video onto a disk in jpeg form. Any recommendations?

I have Vegas Video myself, if that'll help, but the person who wants the still is using a program called screenplay, which apparently runs on a dedicated hard drive.

What you'll have to do is export the particular frames you want. I've never used Vegas Video so I can't halp you there, but one thing I can tell you is make sure you deinterlace the frames.

How do you de-interlace? I know you it's already that way if you shoot in frame mode/progressive scan, but what if the footage was already shot interlaced, and I don't have a fancy program?

You can actually capture a single frame using the capture program. You will need to find the exact frame you want, and with the deck/camera in pause, you can capture the single frame to a jpg file.

In the capture program, right-click the picture and choose to Zoom, 100%. Then choose Transport, Capture, Capture Image (or press CTRL+Shift+R)

If the footage is already captured, right-click on the preview window and choose Display at Project Size. Also choose "Best Quality" (just above the preview window). Finally click on the small "disc" just above the preview window to save the picture.

As mentioned above, it will need to be de-interlaced. If you have a copy of Photoshop or Photoshop LE, open the file, choose Filter, Video, De-Interlace. Save this file and you will have a clean snapshot.

It's actually quite simple in VV3. On the right side of the preview window there is the ubiquitous floppy disk icon. Vlicking on the icon will open a window asking where you want to save the image. Be sure to go into preferences, first, to set up "de-interlace" options.
