has recent HD-DVD announcement deterred you from buying SD cam?

2006 looks like the year of HD-based optical DVDs coming to consumers. will you hold off on buying SD cam in hopes that HD-optical drive burners will come out and come down in price much as the current DVD burners are so you can purchasing a HD-based camcorder to shoot your material?

will canon release HDV-based cam with full compatibility to XL series lenses in the next 2 years? (XL3?)

No, it will not. I am buying an SD camera this month, probably Pana GS400, that most likely will do well transferred to any future HD system coming by.

The problem is not the equipment, but what you do with it.

That's really talking science fiction. What will the future bring us?

Canon took many years until releasing the XL2 and it was SD, even if it had "real 24p". With the present development of events they would have to bring an HDV CCD improvement of some kind to be ahead.

Fortunately for them, Sony seems rather reluctant to release an HDV that can do "real 24p". Sorry to use again this term, but Sony purposely is using a fake 24p on their HDV cameras and making things confusing to the public, and the images done using their HDV in "24p" seem to look weird.

So maybe some other brand comes along with HDV and good 24p. Canon maybe?...

just remember what HDV is..
upsampled high res, high pixel count SD in mpg2 format....
theres alot more to it, but essentially this is what it is.

My stance on the HD front is that i will produce broadcast content in HDVFormat, edited in HDV and downsampled to DigiBeta.
Saves me buying an XDCam unit.. or any other higher end cam...

with regard to actual productiosn i do myself, (as in my own delivery formats to my own clients) i wont bother with HD-DVD until my clients can go to a video shop and hire a movie in HD. Bascially when it becomes a standard format in all homes, THATS when i will bother with it.
Right now, people are only starting to get into dvd recording as a replacement for VHS

The only benefit of HDV for SD delivery is that your image is obviously alot sharper to begin with. Thres a couple of other things HDV offers over SD, but for me in teh real world scenraio i live in, SD is perfectly suficient for the next 4 or so years..

meaning... worry about the here&now... then when HD comes... worry about it then. ok =).
