YUV 4:1:1, 4:2:2, 4:2:0 Question

OK I keep hearing about several different things here..DV is 4:1:1, I keep hearing that DVD MPG2 is 4:2:2 but also some say DVD Video is 4:2:0 and HDV is 4:2:0 Just wondered if DVD is really YUV 4:2:2..... and which others are YUV 4:2:0, YUV 4:2:2 and YUV 4:4:4 ..thanks

It's Y'CbCR for digital video. YUV is something that gets formed in the path to create composite and S-video from component analogue.

DV NTSC is 4:1:1
DV PAL is 4:2:0
MPEG2 DVD and HDV are 4:2:0 (but it's a slightly different 4:2:0 to that which PAL DV uses)
PAL DVCpro is 4:1:1

MPEG2 can be made to run at 4:2:2 for pro applications, but DVD and HDV are the 4:2:0 version.
