Canon ZR70mc

Hello,

I have some questions about the abilities of a camera. I can get my hands on a Canon ZR70mc (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...elTechSpecsAct) to do a short film and am wondering if I will be able to get professional quality out of it. I plan on shooting no low light shots and doing no zooming (I plan on dollying instead). Also, I am going to try to record sound using iphones as field recorders, one with a shotgun mic and one with a hidden lapel mic so I am not worried about the sound on the cam.

Thanks!

No. You cannot get professional quality out of the ZR series. I own a ZR-65 and if you take it for what it is -- a cheap consumer cam made for taking home videos -- you'll be happy with the results. If you're looking for professional grade video, you're going to be sorely disappointed.

Hi Albert, it's hard to say what "professional quality" is, but I agree with John, the ZR70 is a very basic entry-level camcorder and I think you'll be disappointed in the color reproduction in particular. It's a very old model which might be good for home video and for putting things on YouTube, but only a skilled master can get a good looking image out of it.

Hi Albert,

My first camcorder was the Canon ZR50MC (an earlier version of your ZR70).
Compared to my current Canon GL2, the differences in image quality and colors is very noticable. (outdoors, in "near perfect" light conditions, the differences are "minor", but still noticable)

Good morning,

I think you could find a used gl2 pretty reasonable, they make high quality images. Attach a rode video mic to it and I would wager you would be real happy!!
Go to uwol challenge and look at some of Tronde's video!! it is outstanding.
