CAVision Matte Boxes & Zoom Lenses

Hi,

I am looking at putting together a rig that uses a zoom lens and the CAVision 16:9 matte box on 15mm rods. However I have a question about the matte box and how it is fixed to the rods.

The zoom lens extends during zooming. So I am hoping that the matte box attached to the rods can freely slide up and down while I zoom? Can someone confirm this is the case?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out :)

Robert

Robert,

I don't use the Cavision matte box but the Chrosziel. The Chrosziel matte box does not slide freely on the rods. It takes some (gentle) force applied to the center bracket to move it backward or forward on the rods. I guess the Cavision matt box won't be much different in that respect.

I have one, it slides up and down the rods, but I'm not sure if you'd call it "freely".

Robert, which camera/lens are you using?

Robert, I do not supposed you meant to zoom "in shoot" right (and have the MB allow for the extension of the zoom)? If the sliding means just to set up the frame, than any of them will do, otherwise, none (on rods!)(imo)

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your responses......

Dan yes it is just to setup framing rather than to zoom during a shoot.... I suppose I just have to loosen the mattebox to allow it to freely move. Once focal length has been chosen, then fasten the bugger down...
