Lens Question
OK...here is the question. Lets say from a distance of 20 feet two camcorders are recording the same image. Both are zoomed in as tight as possible. One cam is the Cannon GL-2 and the lens is the standard 20x with the spec. of 4.2 - 84mm. The second cam is the JVC 5000 with the Cannon 16X lens with the spec. of 7 - 112 mm.
Which cam will show the largest image of our tiny subject? Thanks in Advance! Ron |
The JVC will
EDIT Sorry everyone else is right.Don't know why I was thinking the JVC was 1/3". |
What's the image magnification factor on a 1/2" chipper like the JVC 5000 cameras? I would have figured the 1/4" chips on the GL would give a big enough magnification factor to give it longer reach even with the smaller glass. Good question though!

I think the easiest way to do these comparisons is to convert both to 35mm SLR equivalents. The Canon GL2 with 1/4" CCDs has a conversion factor of 10.9 and the 1/2" JVC is 5.5. At the maximum zoom of each of the the lenses:
GL2: 84mm x 10.9 = 915mm DV5000: 112mm x 5.5 = 616mm So the GL2 will show the largest image, by far. |
Any one have these two cams that can set up an actual test...seems like we have two different answers....
Thanks! |
