Camera Recommendation @ $3,000
Hello all...
I currently have a Sony A1U and a Nikon DSLR that I am shooting with. I also have all the XLR Audio Gear (Shotgun & Wireless Lav), lights, stabilizers, crane/jib, yadda - yadda... I shoot mostly Documentaries including Interviews - inside and outside - day and night. I just got funded $3,000 for a new camera for a new project. I do need to be able to shoot 1080p so that I can match the footage of my DSLR. I also "want" at least (3) 1/3" sensors if possible. Any thoughts? |
Re: Camera Recommendation @ $3,000
I was going to say Canon XF100, but its only single chip. Three chip under $ 3000 seems a bit of a stretch...

Re: Camera Recommendation @ $3,000
1080p what? 30 or 60?
If 30p, you could consider an AX2000. If 60p, you might have to look at smaller consumer 1-chip cams like the cx700v. (Whoa, just noticed the price on the AX has gone up considerably. I thought it used to be just a little above $3K. The FX1000 is a little cheaper but records to tape and doesn't have XLRs.) |
Re: Camera Recommendation @ $3,000
Is there any reason you don't want to get another Nikon and may be some nice lens for it?
they would match perfectly; If I wouldn't be shooting live events, I'd go DSLR all the way, even now my B and C cams are Canons, |

But hading the flexibility of 60 would get used... |

The reason I don't want another one is the simple fact they don't auto-focus very well. And with the kind of shooting that I do - I rely on auto-focus (maybe too much)... For example I have a shoot coming up in a couple of weeks where I will be collecting footage of a working cattle drive. There will be about 250 head of livestock - 1/2 dozen cattle dogs and a dozen hands on horseback with ropes - it gets really crazy sometimes! |

Thanks - hopefully this is not the only option - I like to have choices - but my budget might constrain that.

Re: Camera Recommendation @ $3,000
Canon XA10? Only downside is single 1/3" CMOS chip, the rest is great. Dual XLR, 1080p, dual SD slots, etc.
