Sony HXR-NX5 or Canon XF 300

I am about to buy another camcorder for mainly weddings and theater shows. I am looking between these two: Sony HXR-NX5 or Canon XF 300. Please let me have your comments.

Hi..
I do weddings and have the Canon XF305 as my A camera and a Sony NX5 for my B camera. All up bottom line is the Canon wins hands hand for clarity and has the wow factor over the Sony.

Thanks Ray, that is interesting. When you white balance the two cameras, do you get the same results or you have to adjust in post? How does the Canon perform in full auto? Compared to the Sony one.

The Canon FX 300 costs about 6700 Euro (about$9600) where as the Sony NX5 is 4000 Euro (about$5700). Is this worth getting the FX 300 instead of the NX5? Or since I have a Sony Z5 another option is to get another Z5 for 3800 Euro only ($5400).

If you already have the Z5 i'd go for the Sony NX5 - they should match up really nicely. Plus you'll save a few dollars over the Canon.

Re: Sony HXR-NX5 or Canon XF 300

After performing a manual white balance I find that both the Canon and the Sony go onto the time line well with little or no variations. I much prefer the Canon as I said it has the wow factor over the Sony and beats it hands down.

The lens of the Canon is something to die for. My last clip on my facebook site was shot with both the Canon and the Sony. The shots at the ceremony were shot using the Sony for the distant shots and close-up of the groom and the close-up of the bride and of the bride were with the Canon.

Hope this helps.
