Can't win for losin'

After a long and arduous struggle getting my video to look HDV, figuring out a workflow, learning the ins and outs of Vegas, becoming aware of the importance of sound, even writing scripts, all I need is a Blackmagic card to view my award winning (si claro) video in all its stunning clarity.

It arrives......pop open the side of the computer and to my anguish....no PCIX 133 Mhz slot, no PCIX anything!

Some of you computer guys, please tell me that this can be remedied, at the computer store, come Monday.

Jim,

It's like watching a continuing saga Jim. You will get this set-up some day! Maybe the best thing to do is go shoot something, and don't take a camera! It is that time of year isn't it?

Good luck,

Mike

That is exactly where I am headed. 5 hunts in 3 weeks, one possibly for one of the shows. I was hoping to get this squared away so I can give them some really good footage.

Oh well......destined to fish for the rest of my time.

Some options:
A- Upgrade the motherboard to a server-type motherboard with PCI-X slots (not to be confused with pciE). This can be really tricky because:
-OEM computers (dell, sony, hp, etc.) may have proprietary case and power supply designs.
-The case needs to be big enough (check extended ATX, ATX, or mATX), and the power supply has to be compatible
-check that your old parts will work in the new motherboard. In particular, the video card and the RAM. Some server-type motherboards don't have AGP or pciE slots I believe. The motherboard may need registered or ECC or DDR2 RAM.
-depending on your processor, there may not be a motherboard with pciX for it

B- Vegas can use a second monitor as a HD display using the secondary monitor option. Check the Sony forum, people are discussing this there. You might want to wait around for the next Dell deal on one of their LCDs.

You'll need a dual monitor video card with DVI + VGA or DVI + DVI output.

Just refund the blackmagic card? Restocking fees may not be nice though.
