Converting H.264 or Apple Pro Res to MPEG-2

Not sure if this is the best forum for this question and I haven't been able find the answer to this question.

I have commercial I cut on Final Cut Pro 6. It need to be delivered to a TV station as an HD MPEG2 file. I have no idea why they selected this kind of file for HD playback. I can't find a way to do it in FCP and MPEG Stream Clip doesn't seem to give me that option.

Any third party software options that can do this for me?

I have converted h264 to mpeg2 /ac3 with Super from eRightSoft: SUPER &copy

Excellent freeware. I have not done full HD with it, however, but there are a wealth of output options including one to maintain the original file dimensions. Worth a try. It is Windows software, I do not know if there is a Mac version as I could not find that information on their website, but you might want to take a look.

Might take a look at Sorensen Squeeze, pricey but good for Macs. Haven't used a mac in a couple of years and have not seen the Sorensen updates, but I expect that they would have the latest codecs in their current edition. $$$.

If you cut this in final cut pro, the final cut forum might have been a better place to post this. I'm fairly new to final cut, but I'm thinking your best solution is to take the original .mov file, and use compressor to output whatever final format you need.

I have final cut studio 3 (which has final cut pro 7), and I don't know how that differs from fcp6. But when I complete an edit, I export a QuickTime movie, and then use that file in compressor, to make whatever format I need for delivery. Seems that would be,your best option. I may be wrong.

Again, if your still working on a Mac, the apple forum might give you better answers.

Hope this helps.
