Is it possible to fake compression convincingly?

Sometimes when shooting, I will want a high compression shot, and either I don't have access to a telephoto lens at that time, or the location we are forced too shoot in does not have the room to zoom in, from far back enough to get a high compression shot.

So I thought I would try to fake it and just make it seem like a high compression shot when it's not. I did some comparison tests on a telephoto lens zoomed in, vs. try to fake the high compression on a much shorter lens.

Do you think that it looks convincing though, vs faking it compared to the real deal in this video of two comparisons:

You don't need a telelens, just use a large aperture shorter focal length lens.

Okay thanks. But that's what I used in the comparisons. Did it work though?

No, it did not work.

Okay thanks. Is there anything I can do, to do it more convincingly?

You need a large aperture lens, like f/1.2 for a crop size camera.

Re: Is it possible to fake compression convincingly?

Okay thanks, but I'm talking about the actors though, not the lens.

Like in the example, does it look like the actors are further away from each other when sitting, even though they are right up close to each other?

Does it look like the gun is closer to his face as oppose to the actor holding it right up against his face.

So I'm talking about the actors faking the compression, and not the lens.

"Actors faking the compression"?
......

You lost me.

Re: Is it possible to fake compression convincingly?

Compression is how close objects look together in the lens, right?

So like for example, in the shot when the actor is holding the gun. I want the gun to look like it's close to the face when it's not, like you see in shots in movies.

In order to do this, you can either get a telephoto lens and zoom in from far away, cause zooming makes the gun look closer to the face then it is.

Or you can use a wider lens, and just have the actor actually hold the gun really close to his face. That's what I mean by faking compression.

Does that make sense?

Re: Is it possible to fake compression convincingly?

The answer is to use an appropriate lens.

Okay thanks, so compression can't be faked then.
