Monster Garage - Discovery Channel
I read somewhere that Monster Garage is being shot with a Sony PD-150. Are they using this camera exclusively or are other rigs being used? Also, does anybody know what they are editing the program with?
Here is a link to the Discovery Channel page: http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mo...tergarage.html |
i have seen pd-150 used in that show..

I think so too. If you look at the shinny surfaces you can catch the reflections now and then.

I've seen both a small (PD150?) camera as well as a full-size ENG camera in shots.

Ditto. Seen more shots of the full-size than the PD-150's. |
if you guys catch the show where they turn the chevy impala into a zamboni the pd150 can be seen very clear, in fact in one shot the main guy stands next to one taped to the impala for about 2 min

Yeah once I heard that TV channels like MTV (or Discovery Channel) buy PD150s by the dozen. It's not the only camera they use but when the have like eight cameramen on a run-and-gun show my guess is it's the PD150!

I think that most, if not all, of these series are produced independently for the Discovery Network. Re: use of the PD150, it would make a great deal of practical sense for this show in particular. Aside from featuring DVCAM footage the PD150 would have the advantage of being able to get shots in tight spaces much better than, say, a DSR570. Can you imagine trying to stuff a full-size ENG can into some of the claustraphobic places that this show requires.
I admit to having become hooked on this show. I've even addicted my wife to it. |
My kids love watching (and so do I) it each week. I am very curious as to how they are putting the show together i.e. - editing software. My bet is that it is being done on an Avid. Just a hunch really.
