You shouldn't have that problem (which is called "vignetting") with most wide angle adaptors. Telephoto adaptors are another thing however. Unless you buy something designed for a much larger lens, they will all cut off the corners when you zoom out. The fact that they're magnifying the image makes this happen. For example, I have the Sony high grade 2x converter for my PDX-10 and it lets me zoom somewhere around halfway out before it vignettes. I never had that problem with a wide adaptor however.
But it's always a good idea to play it safe. When you get an adaptor, hook your camera up to a monitor which shows the whole video frame. Unfortunately, the camera's LCD screen and viewfinder do NOT show the whole frame, there's an area beyond what they show. If you don't have a monitor that will do this then shoot some video and capture it on your computer. When you view it in your editing program you should see the full frame and it may reveal some vignetting in the corners which you didn't see on the camera.
