How to register infor with Windows Media

I started this thread in another category and got no replies. So I am moving it to this one. Hope somebody knows how to do this.

-----ORIGINAL THREAD-----

I want my DVDs to show the chapter titles when I play them in Windows Media Player (actually a client wants this, but now I want it too). The nearest I can figure is that the info has to be registered with Windows on some database. I figure this is the case because when I watch a movie (Lords of the Rings for example) with Windows Media Player I can see the chapter names, as long as my modem is connected. But when I try to play without the modem connection the chapter names are gone and all I get is the generic title 1...

Anyone know where to register your names. And I don't want to enter the names on my computer. My client wants his clients to be able to put in the DVD and pick which chapter they want with ease.

I know they can use the DVD Menu pages, but that isn't what the client wants.

Thanks folks.

Cheapo DV camera

Recently came back from a skiing holiday where I greatly enjoyed filming the kids learning to ski. I took along an old Hi8 camera (I didn't want to risk my Panasonic MX500) and it was a shame that the quality of the footage was so poor. So I was wondering about getting a cheapo DV camera. One that's popped up as a possibility is a JVC GR420. One of the appeals here is that it sports an f1.2 lens and should be good at low light (but I can't see what the sensor size is). Does anyone here have any experience of this camera (either first hand or by reputation)?

Or what else might be appropriate? Trying to spend less than £150.

Recycling old 1/3" Fujinon DV lenses

Anybody know of a way to adapt 8-pin 1/3" Fujinon DV lenses for some HD cams? They are still good lenses, and we have all the controls for them (focus and zoom). Seems like a waste to let them rot if we could use them on something else now that we're have HD equipment...

Anyway to adapt them to some other digital HD cams out there and should we even want to do this?

Portabrace Hard Case Test Video

Hey All,

I recently bought a Portabrace hard case for my XH A1. I wanted something I could check on flights if neccesary.

Today, I got an email from Portabrace, directing me to a Youtube video featured a couple of guys putting their hard case through some pretty extreme tests...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IsPp-nlR3U

Suddenly, I don't feel as bad about having to check every now and then (though I still put the case inside of a larger suitcase...)

Thought some of you may enjoy...

All H264 .mov files now look magenta on my computer!

2 Attachment(s)
I noticed this a week or so ago. I was downloading footage from one of the forums here and when I played it back, it looked all washed out and magenta.

At first I thought it was just a problematic video, but later I replayed some other clips I'd saved and they were doing the same thing. What I discovered was that all the problem clips had been encoded with the H264 codec.

But then it got even more complicated. If I save the clip, it looks screwed up, but if I let it play right in my browser, it works fine. Below are two screen caps of the same video clip. One is playing in my browser and the other is playing directly through Quicktime.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the H264 codec, but without any luck. I'd rather not uninstall and reinstall quicktime, but I guess I will if I have to. Has anybody seen anything like this before? I searched the WWW but with no luck.

Best places to get a camera(s) repaired?

Does anyone have recommendations on mini-dv repairs that don't cost an arm and a leg?

Kudos to Canon Repair in IRVINE

Credit where credit is due. Kudos to Chris Canada at the repair facility in Irvine for the attention to detail, and turnaround on a problem with my XL2. Good service should always be remarked upon.

What is the compression of Discovery HD?

I am sure they use HD or HDCam, or maybe uncomprressed HD for their productions. But once they air the HD programming thru cable, it must be compressed. I wonder if that is MPEG 2? or MPEG 4? How is HDV quality compared to that of Discovery HD thru cable (viewer side)? Thanks

My 13 week episode

Having just put the final show to bed it is time for a little reflection.

The thought of being able to produce, write, film, edit, and score your own production may sound like everyones dream. I am hear to tell you its a lot of work. There is a new found respect for those who do this for a living. You just gotta love it.

Would I do it again, you bet. It was probably one of the most challenging things that I have yet to do. The best thing .... was Doing It. The worst, well it really was not all that bad, except for the part of not making any money, finding advertisers, finding someone to find advertisers.

I appreciate all the help that was received from this board and the great people on it.

What's next? Well there is the DVD, UWOL Challenge, maybe a few weddings for free of course ... and hunting season is just around the corner.

Again thanks all.

Jim

Focusing Manual Lens Handycams

I presently own a Sony HC-1 and have rented PD-170s and XL-2s. When doing hand held work I rely on the auto focus to focus the lens and then go to manual.

If you're using a camera such as the new XD Cam EX that has a full manual lens, how difficult is it to focus, adjust iris etc when you're using it hand held?

crash test stock footage

guys,
iam working on a documentary on road safety in my city and as part of that i wanted to show people the importance of wearing helmet and seatbelt. i have searched on google if i can find some stock footage of crash tests done on dummies for the above topic. metafe.com and a few other websites seem to show videos but they are heavily compressed for web which i cant use for broadcast. a few stock video sites have footages of airbag test on dummies.
can any one help . how did those guys post it on metacafe? are they royalty free. i can spend 300$ on both the footages to the max.
some thing like these videos
http://www.helmethairblog.com/index....cle-crash-test
http://www.archive.org/details/crashdummies1 (the second one in the list)

are there any organisations where i can borrow or buy ...
unfortunately, in my country no crash tests are done on automobiles.

thank you
Krishna
