Insurance

I bought a full set-up to make a movie and now the shooting is done. Everyone that was involved in the movie wants to use the equipment, but I'm afraid something might happen to it, and no one can afford to replace the equipment.

I can't find anywhere to insure the equipment so I can lend it with protection.

Does anyone know of insurance companies that offer equipment?

Thanks: George

Talk to your auto/home/renters insurance guy. They have policies much like renters insurance based on the value of either replacing the equipment at current cost or cutting you a check at purchased cost. The premiums are usually based on yearly coverage.

When you goto talk with him/her, take a complete list of what you've got, where you got it, how much you paid for it, receipts for it, and polaroids/digital pics of the equipment (does anyone still use those?). This will help out your agent in quoting you a price for the policy right away. Last time I checked with my agent, he said I could get about $10,000 of coverage for about $200 for the year. Speaking of which... I should get back to him about this...

I'm thinking that he is more interested in damage protection. Normal insurance would cover only out and out theft and fire flood etc. I'm not to sure you will find anything unless you start a rental business and buy insurance for that. You would not like the rates on that I'm sure.

Go with your equipment and help them out. You will learn and they will appreciate your help and be more anxious to help you next time! That is what I do! :)

Thank you both.

State Farm wrote an "Inland Marine" policy that covers all my equipment pretty much for any theft or damage. I pay about $1100/year for about $30K of coverage.
