I could be wrong about this, but doesn’t the 170 have a better focus assist? I was under the impression the 150 is a watered down, center zoom only.

The HMC-150 has the option for zoom, histogram, or both for focus.

My memory is a bit fuzzy on the 170, no pun intended, but I thought it had an additional option for focus. I could be wrong however....

I think the HPX70 does have some sort of MF-assist too that fine tunes your manual focus setting. I too am unclear on HPX details but I recall reading something like that....

HMC150 file size issue

I just read a comment on another HMC150 thread about a continuing problem with long clips. Is this common knowledge? Is there a problem with the AVCCam files beyond a certain size or time.IF so, it's a recent development, I'm guessing. Any comments?

Can you please define "long clip"?

Defined as exceeding the 4GB file break.

Paul,

It appears that it is an issue with cheaper SD and SDHC cards like Adata. They seem to record about 15 minutes and then just stop or freeze up. Transcend brand cards seem to be the best alternative to the more expensive Panasonic cards.

Cheers.

The other problem some report is a few frames dropped as a new file is created every 4GB. Most clips don't run this long, so most people don't even know if this is a problem.

If you are doing long form events, this creates a big concern (as it does for me). I'm hoping its just with the low end SDHC cards. Has anyone here had this problem?
