Loose contact points AF 100
 

Hello, I have an AF100. The contact points between the camera body are loose, not much, but a little. Every one of these pins. I think there are eleven of them. Could someone please check their camera and see if you have this as well. I don't think you can make the determination by finger, you have to use a pen or some just object to really see the slight movement.

I understand that on other 4/3rd cameras these points are retractable, but perhaps on the AF100 they are designed with a little give. The reason that I am asking is that on some cameras it has been discovered that they are seriously loose, and also have left deep grooves on the lens contact points. The owner is now trying to establish a warranty claim.

Well, that's interesting. Over one hundred views, and not one person is willing to check their camera out to see if they have loose pins too? Come on, how about a little help here!

Yes, I'll chalk the poor response up to that. For what its worth, after further searching this issue out, I discovered that if you look at the contact points closely, they are all loose. I believe this is by design. This is part of the retractable characteristic of this component. If you press down on each individual pin they retract. This is to absorb the fitting of a lens.

The warranty claim all started over two members of a forum that have discovered broken pins. One is covered under warranty and was able to get the component replaced after much debate as to where the blame lay. Lucky for him because the orginal quoted price for repair is the actual cost of the camera itself as the sensor has to be replaced ! This person argues that is was the direct result of the Lumix 12-35, or a defect in the component. The other member who has broken pins as well, claims that while he has the Luminx 12-35 it was not caused by that.

My conclusion is that I'm not sure if the Lumix 12-35 caused these breakages, or not. I have this lens and it does seem to be tight fitting, compared to the Lumix 14-140, and there is very slight scratching on the actual lens contacts themselves from taking it on and off.

So, the moral of the story is, AF100 users who also use the Lumix 12-35, be on guard!
