uploading MX3000 digital photos

Can someone help this fellow?
Quote:

My name is Steve Andon, I was referred to you as the MX expert by Chad Scowcroft; I bought his used MX3000 cam. I also just signed up for the DVInfo forum (I'm a novice with this cam).

I had just one question I am hoping you can help me with: Getting still photos uploaded to my PC from the cam. (Up until now I've always uploaded digital photos using a regular still cam with a USB cable, so the cam just immediately shows up as a device on the PC; this is apparently not as simple.)

I have a firewire cable plugged in and have followed the english PDF to set the camera the way I want it, and have taken a couple pics. Now how do I get the darn things up to my PC?? Do I need special software? Would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction?

Thanks!!!!!

I'm not a MX expert; I just happan to own one and know a few things about them.

I don't have a clue about uploading stills with my MX300, because I never do it with my old computer. I have uploaded stills from my MX300 and digi SLR cams, into MACs, however! It's so easy! I know this doesn't help any.

I'm going to do a bit of research tomorrow and give you your answers. Okay?

Is there not a seperate USB cable for transferring stills? I don't think I've seen too many cams that transfer memory card stills via firewire.

Why don't you save a lot of time and get a nice high speed SD card reader for about $20. If your computer has USB 2.0 you'll be amazed at how fast the pictures download to your PC. They even have nice all-in-one units that fit into your PC bay and will read every media format.

Here is an example:

BTW - download is to pull from cam to PC and upload would be the opposite.

Thanks Tommy.

>Do I need special software?<

Yes. But I'm not familar with what the newer PC operating systems come bundled with. There is software included with the MX3000---I don't know if it will do you any good, however. It may be all in Japanese.

unplug the firewire cable, plug in the usb cable, it will show as a new device and cut the picture to your harddrive, simple as that.
