MX5 verses TRV950

So the new MX5000's got the 1/6" CCDs and the new TRV950's got the 1/5" CCDS (or there abouts). One's got a Leica lens, the other one's got a Zeiss, I think, or something almost as good. Who knows. Both cams are small, plastic and sexy; But which one's better? Who knows. The MX shoots progressive, the TRV don't! The TRV does the full shutter speed thing, the MX don't! But I ask myself, where's the lux?

Answer: it can be found on the VX2100/PD150 forum. :-))

Frank Granovski April 15th, 2004 02:42 PM

Perhaps the new GS400 will require less LUX. It's gotta. If it don't, GL2 sales will be even stronger.

price

the panny being so much cheaper makes it more attractive imho... For the price of the 950 you might as well go for for the agc80 - its not all that much more..

Frank Granovski April 15th, 2004 04:38 PM

Agreed. But it's been brought to my attention that the DVC80 is no longer listed on Pana Pro's USA site. :-((

Time to snatch one from B&H using 'er good ol' "boarding house reach." Too bad Pokey's short of cash. :-))

Tommy Haupfear April 15th, 2004 07:00 PM

Is there an anamorphic adapter for the DVC80? Hmmm...

Justin Boyle April 16th, 2004 07:14 AM

heh guys lets now forget all that has been said and answer the question of what is the better cam? lets forget price etc, if at the end of the day all you want is quality and it came down to these two cameras which would you choose and why?????

Pana has one for it.

I prefer a small quality 3-chip cam such as the MX3, 5 and GS100. I prefer small because it's unobtrusive and yet can do the job.

Tommy Haupfear April 16th, 2004 04:37 PM

I'd choose the MX5 for its frame mode and better 16:9 mode.

Its hard to ignore price with the MX500/DV953 coming in under $1000 versus $1600-/+ for a TRV950. Of course a PDX10 would be a whole other issue!

Frank Granovski April 16th, 2004 04:42 PM

What??? The MX5/953 is under $1000?

Yes, Tommy quotes the US$1000.

Frank Granovski April 16th, 2004 11:42 PM

No, he said under $1000 (US). See: "...with the MX500/DV953 coming in under $1000..."

George Beck April 17th, 2004 12:40 AM

DV953 is less than 1000$ on most sites...

example... :)

B&H lists this:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=276528&is=REG

(1499$)

but when you "add to basket" turns to 979$ =)

Frank Granovski April 17th, 2004 01:19 AM

Ha ha. In Canada it still costs twice as much! :-((

Tavis Shaver April 17th, 2004 02:11 AM

yeah Leo's Camera said that it was $2500 when i enquired about three months ago.

Frank Granovski April 17th, 2004 02:40 AM

Convert that to US Dollars, and you'll end up a hair under $2000 US. Yeah, twice as much. But don't blame Leo's. Blame Pana Canada. They set the prices---kind of like Nikon US prices verses Nikon Can prices, etc---although Leo's isn't a Nikon dealer. Thank the good one for our sponsors.

Even further off topic---I went to canondv.com and noticed that they are offering huge cash-backs, $500 for the XL1s, $200 for the Optura Xi, etc. Then I went to the Canadian site (canon.ca), and I couldn't find anything about cash-backs. I did see this, however, about the Optura Xi:
Quote:

A first-class ticket to image excellence awaits you with Canon's Optura Xi camcorder. Beneath its silky exterior lies a true visionary at work, producing video and photos that are nothing short of breathtaking. Refined, smart, and dynamic, the Optura Xi thrills the senses, stimulates the mind, and fills you with boundless creativity. Colour and clarity exceed your wildest expectations. Unrivalled performance, expert design, and meticulous attention to even the smallest detail put the Optura Xi in a class by itself.
Crazy sexy, huh? But no cash-back! :-((

And in the end of all this sexy promo, there\'s no full shutter speed thing, and I again ask myself, where\'s the lux?
