Anybody know a good lens hood for Raynox HD 5000 ?
 

We (Frank, Patricia and others) were discussing this in part on another thread so I wanted to start a thread on just this topic.

The Raynox HD5000 front filter thread size is 62 mm.

Anybody have any good expeirence with a lens hood that has no vignetting ? Or maybe it is not even a possibility ?

B+W make specific hoods for wide angle lenses. And they have one in the 62mm thread size. Model # 920, 63E.

The wide angle lens hoods are found on Page 46 to 49 in their catalog.

Does Hoya make specific hoods for wide angle lenses? I don't have their catalog.

I don't really know about HOYA because I have not tried any of their hoods (if they make some). I bought a generic rubber Wide Angle hood from B & H but when using it, I get vignetting.

I am sorta hoping that somebody has some personal expierence with a good hood and can recommend one to me.

Are you sure it was B+W's 62mm hood made for wides? I have the catalog and it looks like it should easily work. Do you have a UV on the adaptor? The filter can cause vignetting. That's why most wide angle adaptors don't come with front filter threads.

B+W also makes a wide angle metal hood, made of black anodized aluminum. Order #970 / 62 E

No Frank, it was not the B+W Wide angle hood, it was just a general (generic brand).

I am using a slim-line 62mm HOYA UV filter on the Raynox so that is why I am wondering if I can use a lens hood in combination with the UV.

There's 2 kinds of that Hoya Slim UV: 1 with filter threads on the front, 1 without filter threads on the front. I assume then that yours doesn't have the filter threads, so you can't screw anything else on. Perhaps make yourself a hood with a toilet plunger? They come in all sizes at the hardware store, and even come in black. Just use a razor to trim it down to size.

My HOYA UV Slim does have front threads.

That's why I am looking to add the Lens Hood on top.

I remember the Toilet Plunger and it's not a bad idea. I am just lazy about building stuff like that and would rather find a ready made filter if I can ;-D
