anamorohic lenses
 

heh anyone out there. i have a 2x converter for my mx-500 and it is really great except that the vignetting is terrible all because of the spherical main lens element. i have recently read an article that frank posted a link to and it has given me ideas. are there any teleconverters out there that use anamorphic lenses and what are they.

An anamorohic lens or a tele adaptor? Why not just accept 10X while set in widescreen mode? :-))

i asked for the wrong information. it is not an anamorphic lens i want but a aspheric lens. i knew it sounded wrong

Oh, no worries, but I can't help you with this one. I wonder if Leica makes any? :-))

that would be nice wouldn't it. The truth is that this is the only real draw back to my teleconverter. it doesn't take any light and the center of the image is sharp as. the zoom is amazing and the only other thing is that it is impossible to use this cam with twice the zoom even though the stabiliser is good

I'm a little confused here, and I hope it's not just me.
For starters Justin - your 2x teleconverter is designed to extend the maximum focal length of your zoom lens, so that instead of having 48mm as your top whack, you'll be able to shoot at 96mm with no loss of light, no vignetting, but a lot more camera shake. The teleconverter (unlike a wide-angle converter) is not designed to be zoom through. It *could* be made zoom through, but you wouldn't like the size, weight, bulk or price. And neither would your delicate filter threads on the MX500.

Aspheric lenses (http://www.collinscraft.com) are designed to minimise the barrel distortion that affects many wide-angle converters, and they do so to a greater or lesser degree. I have four aspherics and only one of them completely corrects for barrel distortion - though the others come close. The Raynox 6600PRO I'm sure includes an aspheric in its lens element lineup, but again it's not entirely zoom-through.
