so.. is the GS400 same as HC1000, but smaller, cheaper, and with bigger better lens?

(and way cooler look)

George Beck May 15th, 2004 09:26 AM

is 690k effective in WIDE or 4:3 mode?
or it's the same in both?

how was in dv953 or gs100?

Not only.
I believe Sony again suppose his consumers are stupid a little bit.
If I'm true, HC1000 has not properly manual iris and gain controls. There is incomprehensible "Exposure": "||||||||||||||||||". Like TRV940/950 and PDX10 has.
You can't control iris or gain directly, but... it's possible to see all of those parameters during playback 8-()

A copy of the original spec sheet from Panasonic Europe to Joby Arandela is in the e.CAM Album on my website.

WRT to the 690K effective pixels for video, I believe that refers to 4:3. However, the number of pixels in 16:9 is less important than the sample shape they take from the CCDs. If the shape is correct for HQ 16:9, then it won't matter if there are only 600K pixels (or whatever) because the whole image will be captured directly and not interpolated.

what does the HS mode mean on the USB 2.0 output??

i hope these specs are not disinformation put out by someone in marketing to confuse competitors and info hungry camera junkies like us

Guy Bruner May 15th, 2004 01:28 PM

It probably means high speed. Maybe to differentiate USB 1.1 and 2.0 as low and high speed.

Don't know about the disinformation aspect. Joby said the specs came directly from Panasonic Europe.

George Beck May 15th, 2004 10:29 PM

I still don;t get Why/How we'll have 1mega capture during playback =/

this was in just about all pana specs, but didn't see info in the last one from e.Cam.

I guess we have to sit this one out and see what comes out of it.

George Beck May 15th, 2004 10:33 PM

on another note...

with the Dolby Digital 5.1 (which I think it will turn out to be 4 chan regular audio) of HC1000,

can the GS400 (GS100) do the same?

it says it can do 4 12bit chan. so if we put a mic that outputs 4 chans woudn't it do the same thing as Sony's HC1000?
can this be done on the GS100?

Plasma Mig (2)

what do you think this means?
Video Head – Plasma Mig (2)

is it a Plasma Mig II ( a newer model)
or for some reason there are 2 Video Heads? =)

You're welcome George. I'm still waiting for some response to emails I sent over the weekend. I guess we'll just have to be patient and wait and in the meantime, take some clips or pics of beautiful people, places and wildlife. :)

heh guy how credible are these specs from the europe website. i would love them to be credible becaue that means that it might be a worthwhile upgrade from my mx-500 depending on prices.

Justin

Kamal Tailor May 19th, 2004 05:10 AM

Justin>>> i was going to get a MX500, i'm hoping that the GS400 is going to outclass it by a long way, and hopefully Panasonic doesn't decide to release a 720p camera anytime in the next 4-6 months

where abouts in Aus are you buy the way??

cos that would be just plain mean! hehehe, seeing as i would have already bought a GS400 by then

i was thinking of buying the sony but it looks too bulky and it's too damned expensive

i just wish money was no object then i could upgrade camera's every 6months or so hehehe

Justin,
I guess they are pretty credible. According to Joby, they came straight from Panasonic Europe. Just looking at the specs, they don't appear to be outlandish...sorta inline with technical capabilities of other Panasonics and its competitors.

Marco Mezzalana May 19th, 2004 06:36 AM

sigh

My one year old mx500 it's already ancient!Maybe I had to sell my mx500 and purchase the new gs400...
