Which one ? Although i consider myself a descent still photographer, I am fairly new to the DV scene. I have made quite a few FCE movies and am looking for my first DV camera. I have used a few Eluras and a few Sony cameras in some of my productions. I am looking for a camera in the GS200 range maybe slightly more. I don't want the camera for stills but rather for digital video more so. Can you recommend the good cameras in this price range ? I don't want a camera that will limit me in a short period of time. Thanks ! |

I would take a look at the Panasonic DV-953 over the GS200. It should be found for under $1000 and offers a lot more bang for the buck. There "may" be a replacement this month or next for the DV953 (see GS400 threads) but its initial discount will probably not be as steep as the diminishing supply of DV953s. You can do a search for DV953 in this forum and find a wealth of information, reviews, and even some footage/frames. |

953 price ? Here in Canada the PVDV953K is $2,200 CDN and the GS200 is only $1299 CDN for some reason it is more than a 1000 US here. Is there a cheaper place to buy one ? |

I should have noticed that you are in Canada. There is definitely a premium on the DV953 in Canada and I'm not 100% sure of what US websites would ship to Canada. Here are some features found on the DV953 but not on the GS200. Optical Image Stabilization Quality 16:9 mode Frame mode Individual color and sharpness settings Zebra stripes and color bars Manual audio |
