homemade mini35 and gs400
i just finished building a mini35 to use with my gs400 but theres still a problem with an upside down image. if you frequent the alternative image section of the forum you would know what i mean. anyway theres a trick than many people including dvx owners have used to flip the image. the trick is to place a magnet near the lcd screen thus interupting the signal and flipping the image. has anyone here bulit a mini 35 and tried this trick? am i just blind and missed something in the gs400's menus which allows you to flip the image?

Hi Matt
Would be very interested in seeing how your footage looks. Any softness or degradation etc Cheers Mark |
There is no option on the GS400 for flipping the image, unless you turn the LCD to face forward. However, how about using a mirror? Tilt the LCD toward you until the top edge is pointed at your eyes. Then, put a small mirror under the LCD to reflect the image to you flipped.

yeah i have thought about a mirror but at present thats a last resort if i can't get this magnet trick to work. if i can i'll put some footage up, as far as i'm concerned it looks excellent, the only problem is dust which sometimes creeps in and really stand out in the footage.

Can you post some footages of your GS400 with the mini35 adapter? It'd be great if you could!

if you can tell me a place i can host the footage i'll try and put some up. for now here are some images, they are just random things i thought would make for interesting tests of my mini35. oh yeah its the static model.

Matt, I have a Hoodman LCD hood for my GS400. I bought a 2x3 mirror from Fischer Scientific and put that laying down in the hood and tilt the hood up. Works nice.

thanks that'll save me some time making my own
|
so i gave up on the magnet idea (it just won't work), so now i'm going with the mirror, but as always theres a problem. although the image can be viewed in the lcd properly upright it is reversed left to right. is there a way around this with any of the gs400 features or i am i stuck. If i'm stuck no big deal i'll just have to work around it.

My first thought was that there must be a digital effect flip mode, but no such feature, unfortunately. It would be cool if they added this in the future.
|
it would be awesome if they added it but oh well, i'll just have to get used to filming everything backwards.
|
could you please post some videos?
thanks. the pics look great besides the grain. I really need to look a video before I can judge your 35mm sum stuff. |
Matt, if you have a video clip or two, I'd be happy to host them here. Just shoot me an email.
|
that'd be great thanks. i'll be shooting some stuff today so hopefully in the next couple of days some clips will be ready.

Hey, I have a machine shop making me a nice one-piece M42 lens->55mm ring adaptor. I'll let you know how they come out.
