It certainly is, and more. The MX5 is one solid cam that captures razor sharp video with wonderful color saturation. In fact, it's a more solid cam than the older MX300 and GS400. Plus it's east to hand hold, unlike the MX300. The only real-world draw-back with it is that it requires more light than old world miniDV cams such as the MX3, TRV900 etc. Nevertheless, the MX5 should be good enough until HDV is long gone and buried. :-))

You mean MX5000 stills are good?
Just kidding...
BTW I can't see any noise in the photo - did you retouch it before downsizing or you just resized it?

Young Lee January 23rd, 2005 10:22 PM

No, all l did was resize the pic using Photoshop "5.0."

Whoa! Is this a screen grab from the MX5000's video?? Or is it a resized still picture that the MX5000 took? That is just amazing if it's from the cam's video!

Marco Mezzalana January 24th, 2005 09:32 AM

what do you use to capture the frame? And what software do you use for deinterlace?
It can be helpful for me...thanks!

Guys, this is STILL photo from the cam downsized to the resolution you see. May be you couldn't get my play of words and it is not clear from Young's response. :)

Note: The MX5000 and GS100 (don't know for GS400 and the like) produce quite noisy photos at 3 mega pixel resolution. It is OK for up to 15x10 cm prints but on a PC doesn't look pleasant at all. Downsizing gets rid of the noise (for example check the sky - usually it's full of random color noise).

To make such size picture from Video Capture you have to UPSIZE from 720x480 - something that will deteriorate the image even more.
