MX 500 as a Anlog-DV Converter

Is it possible to use the MX500 (or genearlly DVCamera) as an analog-DV or DV-Analog Converter???
Since some DvCamera has Analog IN it should be able to connect an AnalogSignal(VHS-Player) on your DV Camera, from there it converts the AnalogSignal directly to DV so I can send it via FireWire in to my PC, or do I have to record the Analog Signal first in my DV-Tape and then send it via Firewire??
And how about the other way sending DV Signal via FireWire in your Camera, then converting it directly to Analog Signal.
If it really works then there is no need to buy an extra Converter
from DAtaVideo DAC-2, which can do this.

Would be thankfull about all info.

I don't think it has "pass-through," but I'll check the manual and post what I find tomorrow.

Thanx for the info Frank Granovski,
Good to know that it needs this option "pass-through"

I searched through the manual and could find no mention of this. I presume, then, it does not have it. It seems that AV pass-through is mainly a Sony thing, found on even their cheaper cams like the TRV17/18.

I think A/D conversion feature is available. See page 45 of the English manual or page 93 of the Japanese manual.

The "other digital video equipment" could be a PC right?

D/A conversion from PC to VHS, since the cams DV terminal is I/O and the analog AV terminal is likewise I/O, could it be possible too?

I'll check those pages again. It does have AV-in, but I don't think it has "pass-through."

I use the "Pass through" feature of the MX3000 everytime I edit
video with an NLE program. I connect the 1394 firewire cable to
the computer output and at the same time connect the S-video
from the camera to a TV on my desk top. When I play the .avi clip
on the computer, the MX3000 instantly converts the 1394 signal
to S-video output and I see what each clip looks like at full screen 27" resolution.

Page 45 of the NV-MX500A Operating Instructions

Analog-Digital Conversion

* When the Movie Camera is connected with other digital video equipment through its DV Terminal, images recorded in analog form from other external equipment can be output to the digital video equipment through the DV Terminal.

* To DV-output analog video signals sent from other equipment, set (DV OUT) on the (AV IN/OUT SETUP) Sub-Menu to (ON). (Normally, keep the (DV OUT) set to (OFF). If it is set to (ON), the quality of the image may be disturbed.)

Thanks for the info.
After reading about the XM2/GL2 I decide rather to get this camera.
Actually I prefer the DVX100, but had no possibilty to use it, cause in Europe we still dont have it, thatswhy I am thinking to get the canon first, really cannot wait anymore, need to do my work, been spending my time to long to read all the test, which help me alot and also thanx guys, but you need to know where to stop.

I send my question to the GL2 topic already, but maybe some of you know if the Gl2/XM2 has a
-passThrough
-16:9 guidline
-and if its true the Pal version has 3lux instead of 6lux(Ntsc)
