OK, here are my test. The results of some of the tests revealed how this stuff works and how a better set of tests might be run. More coming soon.

Also, there is more discussion on this topic here.

Hi Joshua,

Do you know zebra in GS400 is 100% based or 70%-80%?

TIA

Leigh,

It differs depending on mode (NORMAL vs. PROCINEMA / PICTURE ADJUSTMENT or not). In NORMAL it's 100%. In PROCINEMA, I believe it showed as 110% in one of my tests. With PICTURE ADJUSTMENT set to CONTRAST -5, it showed up at 85% in NORMAL and PROCINEMA.

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for the answer.

May I ask how you test and get these numbers? Just curious and I want to test to get these numbers myself?

TIA

Leigh,

You can light up white card, frame it up, and open the iris until you start to see zebras. Record a second or two, bring it into an NLE and pull up a vectorscope. It should show you the IRE levels. I've done this with Premiere Pro 1.5. I did this in all the modes described, but I rushed, so I can't stand behind the figures, but I'd be interested to see if you come up with the same.
