So, which one is better?
 

Some of you lucky DVI member have had the opportunity to try all 3 of Pana's MX 3 chip cams.

1) MX300/0
2) MX350
3) MX500/0

Never mind their prices, and I realize they are all a "mixed bag." But which one would you give your vote for, as the best overall cam (from these 3)?

Specs are specs..., I was hoping for your gut feeling. Any takers?

My vote goes for the MX300/0. But then I've never used a MX350 and MX500/0. Is this wrong?

I like poker cams, I vote for my MX350 (of course!).

But the quality of the MX300 should not be any less, and even more than the MX350. Hopefully Steven Khong gets his back befor 29 Jan, when I go up to KL to meet him.

With that, I'll probably make a comparison report.

Has anyone here upgraded from a MX300/0 or MX350 to a MX500/0?

So which is better?

One vote from me to MX500 for the detail of 3megapixel picture quality. Guys who vote should least used two of them before. I see the different between MX300 and MX500.

Which one do you give both thumbs up? (since you own both the MX300 and MX500).

Me planning to buy the Pal DVX100 when it is release in Singapore. If not, I would be the only nut owning two 3CCD cam in the same market segment.......

Not a nut to own 2 3CCD cams, but a very effective camera set-up! How I wish I can afford that! And two cams from the same company, no extra training time, similar colours and controls, wonderful. Even the 1CCD MX8 I owned was compatible to my MX350 and easy to match.

Yes, I do agree that the MX500 3MP stills are much better than those from the MX350 (in terms of noise and resolution) and MX8 (in terms of resolution), but the primary comparison should be in the video resolution and quality. The MX500 is better, but not too obvious to a non-pro like myself. I have not tried the MX300, maybe Chua and I can meet up to have a shoot out between the MX300 and MX350. I am also looking forward to 29 or 30 Jan 2003 when I meet up with Steven in Malaysia, who also owns an MX300 (but hopefully the set comes back to him from the factory in time!)

Sorry Yow, but I am never concerned about the still performance of a camcorder. They will never beat the dedicated still from a digitcam. When I mentioned that 'detail', is of video quality. I have done a side by side comparison between my MX300 and MX500 and the difference is obvious.

I would love to meet up sometime in the future with you or even Steven Khong!

I have to dig up my comparison videos again, which I took at Harvey Norman, Funan, and I actually shot three times the same scene with MX8, MX350 and MX500.

The last I recalled, the quality of the MX350 is not too much different from the MX500.

BTW, have you upgraded the firmware of your MX300? Seems to improve the OIS and some other stuff!

Also, can you please check whether the widest angle (1x zoom) of the MX500 is as wide as the MX300. My checks show that the MX8 is widest, then MX350 and the narrowest view is the MX500.

And just to clarify that I am not flaming the MX500, I do believe that it is a good cam, but as always there are trade-offs here and there, mostly due to pricing. :)

Nay, don't worry friend, no offend taken or intended. The CCDs that produce the video and still are in most of the time connected but not absolute. In relation, though I have never tried MX350, I often assume that their specs are close to identical. Both 1/4 inch 3CCD offering 1.8mp recording still.

I will wait for the result of the comparison taken by your MX350 vs Steven's MX300.

Actually, it may be easier for me to meet up with Chua to compare the MX300 and MX350 :)

Shouldn't be much difference in quality, both about the same age and using similar CCDs, lenses and electronics.

I choose MX300 (slim case and better quality)
