One thing i'm reading about the DVC80 and DVX100 is about their shutter speeds.

They don't appear to have slow shutter speeds like 1/8, 1/5 and 1/30. Is that true?

I'd like to know what owners think about this.

In 24p, it has 1/24th as the slowest speed. Slow shutter speeds are a digital effect (at least they were on my XL1) and produce an unnatural effect which might be a creative tool, but can also easily done in post (in realtime on most NLEs).

I never used the slow shutter on my previous cams, so don't miss it here.

Emilio, JVC and Panasonics aren't known to have low shutter speeds. Even Canon's GL1 didn't have them, though the newer GL2 does. 3-CCD Sonys all have them. I find manual low shutter speeds especially useful for lower light/tripod shooting for weddings/funerals. (My Pana MX300 doesn't have these settings either, though my DVL9500 cams have the 1/15th setting, which I find useful, for low light and effect---but the 1/30 setting would be ideal.)

Well, i guess i can live without that... although tripod night shots are almost impossible without slow shutters.

Now I have a more futile question, if someone has the chance to compare them... how different the dvc80 and dvx100 in size and weight?

Identical in size, and probably identical in weight. They are in fact also identical in appearance except that the DVC80 is all-black.
