DVX100 AE & A timelapse ?
I am waiting to buy the DVX100AE - but I can't find any info here on "timelapse" you know the type of shots always done with traffic - streaking lights trails at night .
It seems by reading on some other forums , that this is hard to do with DV , but It is one of the main reasons I want to buy this cam - so does it do it ? or not ? & if it does - is it any good ? _ The DVX100 A seems to have an upgrade in the slow shutter speed section of the cam & has some more options - so has anyone got any info ? |
i dont think there are any changes to the timelapse section of the cam...
maybe that shutter thing you were talking abotu, but with having a fiddle with it, its all heresay... |
the only addition to timelapse is a super slow shutter (i think 1/12 or 1./8 not sure) but apparently it does the groovey "traffic light lines" as oppsed to adding those in post..
this is more akin to still photogrphy timelapse as opposed to video timelapse.. i havent seen it in action on teh cam itself, but i have seen footage similar to what theyre describing and for those who will use this, it is a significant addition to the standard fare. |
I did this with the 100a! Video taped in regular 24p... timelaspe still needs a little tweaking... but gives the light streaming effect.
Going to do another test this weekend! http://www.illconcepts.com/videotest.mpg |
That's pretty cool looking.

I've got a 3 year, 3 camera time lapse project coming up. The dvx100 seems to be the perfect tool for this. Naturally, I will test.
I'm open to suggestions or ideas. Here's the build on paper. I have plenty of time to test. 1. dvx100a on a high-hat mounted inside a big rubbermade box. 2. I'm having a piece of uv-protected, glare free glass cut for a lense hole I will cut into the box. 3. I'll fashion some kind of "weather flag" to extend over the lense hole. 3. UPS backup will go in the box. 4. Two of the cams will be webcast. I haven't figured out the software details here, but I have measured and a CPU will fit in the box. 5. I'll make a cable hole with rubber gasket. 6. For the cams that aren't webcast, I may hook up a cellular modem through a smaller cpu and set the monitor output to on-screen display. 7. Locations are very secure, but I never like to take chances. I haven't figured out how to lock the thing but a few Haz Mat stickers might give someone pause. Any thoughts? Glen |
Time Lapse Settings etc.

Thanks, Mark |
new dvx does 1/6 and 1/4 shutters.. so you can get the streaks.
With the normal DVX100 you can only use a 1/24 shutter that looks something like this: http://www.dvxuser.com/image/davie.wmv |
