Auto focus with the DVX100a
 

When the camera is in auto focus... takes a long time to focus? Much slower than the regular 100! Is that ok?

Also in auto focus... the focus ring still works? IS it supose to do that? Did it also do that in the regular 100?

It should take longer to focus in the various progressive modes because the AG-DVX100A employs what Panasonic calls a "focus-assist" feature rather than true auto-focus. Auto-focus should work appropriately in the interlace mode however.

The focus ring still works, that is correct. This was true of the original AG-DVX100.

The manual warns you against manually focusing while in auto. I have found the auto focus in progressive to be reasonably fast relative to my [really low] expectations.

i don't know if this applies. but i had trouble using auto focus on my original dvx100 while zooming out(60i). i was shooting a christmas tree with lights at about 20 feet back. when i zoom out it would get out of focus? i was thinking that it could be the lights in the christmas tree. does anyone know if this true?

That is because you are giving more focal points in your frame, and the camera is trying to figure out what is the most important thing to focus on... thats why most people just stay away from autofocus, or just use it as an assist.
