Century Optics Fisheye (Which one?)

Hi all, I want to buy a fisheye for my DVX100 and I'm not sure if the cheaper one "Fisheye Adapter" or the more expense ".3x Ultra Fisheye Adapter" is right. I'm not doing pro skate work, I just want to have fun with a fisheye lens. Does anyone have experience with either? Impressed? Disappointed?
And, where did you buy it? Where you happy there?
Thanks!

Haven't used either, but I've seen them at trade shows. The "fisheye" is a .5x, and "ultra fisheye" is a .3x. So the ultra is much wider-angle than the "fisheye". If you want the super-wide-angle, super-distorted look, you would want the ultra.

fish eye stuff

i got the century optics wide .6x and its awesome...... i was going to get a fish eye...but for the amount of footage that needed that effect it just wasnt worth it....so i just rented one......keep in mind if u watch all these videos and stuff.... the fish eye footage only makes up about 30% of video

I have the .3 fisheye from Century, its amazing and a big pricey.

how bad does the .3x fisheye vignettes on the dvx?

Barry Green July 9th, 2004 11:36 AM

On Century's webpage they show the .3x in action, assumedly on a DVX, and there doesn't look to be any vignetting:

http://www.centuryoptics.com/products/prodv/dvx100/3x_ultra_fisheye/3x_ultra_fisheye.htm

But I've never used the lens so I can't verify it. You could contact Century directly and ask them. Their product description says that "vignetting will occur at the extreme wide angle."

It doesn't vignette that bad. Only in the lower left corner just a little bit, and a tab in the upper left. you can zoom in past them and not lose any quality.
