sound for the agdvc30

Hi all, I was planning to get the agmc100g with my dvc30 but i'm not sure as to how good the quality will be of that mic. If i look at other shotgun mics, how will i know if it'll fit in well wi/ the dvc30? Sorry, i'm new at this. Thanks

I have one of these (it connects to the optional AG-MYA30G via an XLR connector).

I'm not an expert but here's what I think :
Mine seems to have some backround hiss/hum, part of the noise also seems to be in the AG-MYA30G (yes I have the choke on the cables). I plugged in a cheap condenser mic that was battery powered and there is less noise but with no mic there is still some noise present. I have only used it in one session but I will be using it some more shortly. I'm a bit dissapointed in it. The AG-MYA30G has some nice design features but I think the it should be cleaner. The line setting does not seem to have this noise problem.

If someone that knows more about audio has a solution I would be really glad to here it.

Spike:
If there is anything else I can help you with let me know, but right now I think I would have bought a differnt microphone...

hey thanks for the response, so you think that the xlr adapter unit is the one to blame or the mic itself? a bit confused..

Kevin Spahr February 21st, 2005 05:59 AM

The mic makes most of noise by far and the xlr unit seems to have a bit of noise present when on the mic setting and nothing is attached. I thought it should be totally silent...

Kevin, I also have bought a audio technica shotgun mic (meant for a boompole system). Do you think this shotty will still fit the mount on the camera?

Kevin Spahr February 22nd, 2005 04:17 PM

I don't know, but the AG-MC100 is 7/8" diameter by 6 1/8" long.
Hope that helps...

Hiss? Hum?

EEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDZZZZZZ

Is there an audio problem with the DVC30? Do all of them have this problem when you use the XLR connector? I was just about to order a new DVC30. For me this could be a very serious problem.

I have Sennheiser - ME66/K6 and was expecting to get pro quality sound.

From what I have just read, a ten cent mic or four hundred dollar mic will have hiss in the audio. Are other DVC30 owners having the same problem ...... HELP

Here's the noise that I'm talking about :

http://www.home.earthlink.net/~spahrservices/test.html

It's a ten second clip with out any compression. The description of how the audio was recorded is on the web page.

I love this camera, the picture is wonderful, it sound great when you're recording stuff, it's just those quiet times that's bugging me. Maybe I'm too picky? Could the AG-MYA30G have a problem? (I have two new DVC30's but only one MYA30G and it sounds the same on both cameras.)

I'd love to hear the thoughts of an expert, or at least some one who knows something...

Some one out there should have a set up like this that can give us a second opinion.
