DVX Shock Mount
 

Can anyone give me some insight into the shock mount that comes stock with the DVX100A. Does it do it's job properly? I prefer to leave the shoe mount available for an on camera light.

the mic mount fits to the side.
The actual shoe is not affected.
One thing to note is that due to the wide lens of the dvx, be careful of how u mount the mic else it will come into view.. K6 with ME64 is ideal length.
if using an onboard light and a softie on ur mic, be aware of its position, else youll burn the softie

I agree that ME64/K6 is a good length, but I have mounted my ME66/K6 on there many times and had no problems. I have even used my MS106 miniscreen, and all the footage was clean on underscan. You just have to be aware of it, in case it tilts in accidentally. Key is to cram the mic as far back as possible without covering up the pickup slits. Can't use a furry on the 66 though, since the fur will show up in the lens. The At897 also fits in just fine with its stock windscreen, or an MS104 miniscreen. If you have problems with the light heating up a softie, you can use a hotshoe splitter like a Frezzi 96316 or a Cool-lux MD3000, and use the farthest shoe on that.

Does the stock mount isolate the mic well enough or is it recommended to get a "better" mount.

The stock mount isolates fine. But what's really best is the shoe mounted shockmount that Mr. Hamden hooked me up with when I first got my cam. It mounts onto either a cam shoe or boom pole. Thanks again Rush!
